Entry: Yong Jay's specialty Tuesday, June 16, 2009




Yong Jay told me he wanted to cook us a dinner and his special dish will be a wellington. My eyes widen and i just stared at him for a while. im SURPRISE. yong jay wants to COOK and it's not just a wellington, it is going to be a 3 course meal. My my, looks like Malaysia will be snowing after all.

As usual, everyone turned up late on friday night. (even myself but i gave prior notice!) upon arrival, i fed everyone with my usual pina cola while chef jay bakes his appetizer

This was our menu for the night.

                       Asparagus wrapped with Bacon

                       Grilled Lamb Rack with "turned carrots"
                         mashed potatoes and fresh vegetable

                        "Homemade" dessert with ice cream 

yep. we got conned. It was a lamb rack medium rare instead of a wellington.

So anyways, appetizer was served and we all sat down to eat

For beverage, we had baileys on the rocks served by chef jay's dad and a bottle of merlot from france. Yong Jay's family own this cool wine opener gadjet that doesnt require any skills. In fact, it fosters relationship among us as we all took part in opening one bottle of wine.

Xi wern started off by cutting off the seal with this seal cutter. I then remove the wine cork with the easy gadget and finally, joanne pours the wine.

              This was a very light wine with little tannin

After appetizer, Chef jay went back to his kitchen while the rest of us waited for the next course.

              And voila, our main course of medium rare lamb
                with broccoli, mashed potatoes and carrots   

The carrots were supposed to be TURNED. But chef jay commented that there wasnt enough time to turned them. so he sliced them instead :)

Yong Jay's homemade dessert was actually purchased from a bakery store. lol.
